How long will it take to see results from swimming?

I have decided to start going swimming 3 times a week to try and tone up. I am currently a size 12/14, but would like to get down to a 10/12. I need to curb my bad eating habits as well though – I’m a sucker for fast food. Will I lose weight from swimming? or just tone up overall? I am interested to hear what results anyone has had from swimming, and how long did it take you to start seeing results?

I started swimming for three weeks and I lost 9 lbs and my bench press went from 165 to 195. and you could see my muscles in more detail after those 3 weeks.

Do you have any good swim workouts?

I just started swimming for the first time in my life in November 08′.I can swim a 25 butterfly in 10.3 seconds, a 50 fly in 25 seconds, I swim a 50 freestyle in 26 seconds and a 100 free in less than a minute. however, I can’t swim either for distances…. do you know of any excercises to strengthen myself so that I will be able to do distances? In pool workouts?

Nice times! Especially the 50 fly. Here are the swim workouts I use offseason, girls season just ended so I will be starting these back up again. they really help with distance endurance but there are some sprints as well.

It’s never to late to swim! We over at SwimForums have members that are 30 and older! Here’s an example: http://www.swimforums.net/thread-73.html If you are interested, I suggest you join http://www.SwimForums.net – introduce yourself and ask as many questions as you like, the community would be glad to help you out!
